Suspended Gas Fireplaces NZ: Prices, Models and Installation
Suspended gas fireplace prices in NZ from NZ$14,990, the five Naked Flame models, and how a licensed gasfitter installs one.
A suspended gas fireplace in NZ starts from NZ$14,990 for the Naked Flame Sphere and runs to NZ$16,490 for the Curve 120, before installation. It must be installed by a licensed gasfitter to AS/NZS 5601.1, with a 219 mm flue through the roof, and gas versions hang fixed rather than rotating.
Which suspended gas fireplaces are available in NZ
All five Naked Flame forms come with a factory-fitted gas burner. Prices are for black powdercoat or corten on a flat ceiling.
| Model | Width | Gas price |
|---|---|---|
| Sphere | 700 mm | NZ$14,990 |
| Curve 90 | 900 mm | NZ$15,990 |
| Orbit | 900 mm | NZ$15,990 |
| Silo | 900 mm | NZ$15,990 |
| Curve 120 | 1,210 mm | NZ$16,490 |
Brushed and polished stainless steel cost more than black or corten, and a pitched or raked ceiling adds NZ$1,000 for the angled ceiling fitting.
Why choose gas over the other fuels
- Instant, steady flame. On at a switch, with no refilling.
- Made for daily use. It suits a fire you will run every evening through winter.
- The trade-off is installation. You need a gas supply to the fire and a flue through the ceiling and roof, so it is best planned during a build or renovation.
If a roof flue is not practical, the same forms come in bioethanol and electric, which need no chimney or gas line.
How a suspended gas fire is installed
- Structure. The suspension bracket fixes into the ceiling framing, which must carry 350 kg. The 219 mm flue weighs about 16 kg a metre.
- Flue. The flue is cut to your ceiling height and vents through the roof.
- Gas. A licensed gasfitter connects and certifies the fire to AS/NZS 5601.1.
- Clearances. Keep at least 150 mm clear all the way round and the base of the fire at least 500 mm above the floor.
Your council or building professional can confirm whether your installation needs building consent. Our installation guide covers the structure and flue in more detail.
