Bioethanol Suspended Fireplaces NZ: Models, Costs and Safety
Every bioethanol suspended fireplace we sell compared: heat, burn time, room size, running cost and safety.
A bioethanol suspended fireplace hangs from the ceiling and burns liquid bioethanol for a real flame with no smoke, ash, chimney or gas line. In New Zealand they start from NZ$4,595 for the Cocoon Aeris, give 3 to 5.5 kW, run for 5 to 13 hours a fill, and cost roughly NZ$2 to NZ$6.50 an hour in fuel.

Why bioethanol
- No chimney. There is no flue gas to vent, so it suits renovations and apartments where a roof flue is not practical.
- A real flame. Unlike electric, it burns a living flame.
- Still a hanging form. The Naked Flame forms hang on their own steel flue, which carries the fire from the ceiling and keeps its shape.
Using one safely
- Use bioethanol made for fireplaces.
- Only refuel once the flame is out and the burner is cold.
- Light it with a long lighter.
- Keep the room ventilated and respect the minimum room size.

Fuel and running costs
Our bioethanol fuel comes in 20 L packs at NZ$110 unscented or NZ$115 scented, delivered across New Zealand. A Sphere costs about NZ$2 to NZ$3 an hour to run. Full figures are in our running cost guide.
Heater or feature?
Both. At 3 to 5.5 kW a bioethanol fire gives real warmth to the space around it, and in a large open-plan home it works best alongside your main heating as the focal point of the room.
